Disabled Citizens Sheltered Workshop

Over a period of two days in 2002 Klein took part in what was the country’s first formal Employee Community Involvement (ECI) programme.  Klein repainted the walls which included murals for the disabled workers who work on a range of packaging contracts within the workshop.

Workshop supervisor Marie Murphy says “We wanted to create a more stimulating environment for them and that’s really worked.  They just love the murals.”

Yachting

Klein sponsored Luca Brown from the Murrays Bay sailing club to go to the Opti world champs in Uruguay in 2007.Luca came 3rd at the NZ nationals to qualify for the NZ team for the World Champs.  He managed a credible finish in the top half of the fleet

of 250 sailors from 50 countries. Unfortunately he would have liked to have done better but Luca was  disadvantaged having grown alot since first qualifying and therefore had a  significant weight disadvantage compared to the other competitors. He also qualified for the NZ development teams to Noumea and Japan in the two previous years. He is now part of the Young 88 fleet

Special Olympics New Zealand

Klein sponsored 4 athletes from The Special Olympics Hibiscus Coast team and their families to participate in the National Summer Games which were held in Manawatu in December 2009.  Over 1000 athletes from all over the country traveled to compete against each other in 10 different sports.  The athletes returned with 10 medals and 2 placings.
These results demonstrate the determination and hard work from the athletes and volunteers who contribute their time so willingly.  For many athletes the National Games is the culmination of 4 years training and many Personal Bests are recorded.

Waitemata Health Excellence Awards

Klein was one of the sponsors for the 2010 Waitemata Health Excellence Awards  which showcase the work being done by health professionals in the district to improve the health of local residents.  The awards have been held since 2001 to recognize the achievements of individuals,  teams, wards, departments, primary care providers and GPs taking part in quality improvement projects.
