Auckland Surgical Centre first opened in 1987, as New Zealand’s first purpose-built short stay surgical hospital. The hospital employs around 90 staff, providing services and post-operative care to around 6,000 patients each year, across a range of surgical specialties. The hospital recently became a part of Southern Cross Hospitals.
Klein was engaged to undertake design, project management and contract administration services for the new refurbishment work. This included the redesign of the ground floor interior fitout to optimise the pre-operation and post-recovery patient flow and modernisation of the reception and waiting area, as well as the accompanying relocation of staff facilities to the first floor to enable redesign of the pre-operation area in its place. A new entry drop-off porte-cochère and walkway canopy were also constructed.
