Announcing New Directors at Klein

H Directors FT RL 2023

Klein is delighted to announce the promotion of new Directors Felicity Tapper and Ricky Lam. Between them they share more than 35 years of service at Klein and we could not be prouder of their achievements and dedication during their tenure.

Felicity and Ricky have been instrumental in their contributions to industry leading healthcare planning and design. We are excited to continue with their leadership and guidance shaping the talented architecture team at Klein. They join current Directors of our growing practice Michael Lawler and Managing Director Rachael Rush.

Klein is dedicated to bringing superior healthcare design knowledge to the New Zealand market and today’s announcement reflects Klein’s commitment to exceptional architecture in this specialised field.

Klein Felicity Tapper

Felicity Tapper has been promoted to Director.

Felicity joined Klein in 2008 as Clinical Advisor. She brings to the team an extensive knowledge of the New Zealand health system and draws on over 10 years of experience as a physiotherapist in public and private hospital settings in New Zealand and London specialising in orthopaedics and clinical teaching. Felicity also worked as a Project Manager for both process improvement and design projects within the public hospital system. Her experience as a Clinical Project Manager, Change Manager and Operational Service Manager together with her clinical experience have given her an invaluable insight into many different areas in hospital and healthcare settings.

With excellent relationship management and communication skills and her health background she can facilitate a deeper understanding of the client needs. With over 12 years working at the interface of health and architectural projects she provides a unique and exceptional contribution to our design process especially in the early phases where briefing and clinical services planning, support and interpretation are key.

Felicity also has a major role in the daily management at Klein contributing to training and development, people and culture, and strategic management.

Ricky 2021

Ricky Lam has been promoted to Director

Ricky was promoted to Principal and Design Lead in 2019 having honed his craft as an accomplished designer in the practice since joining Klein in 2005 as a graduate.

Ricky’s design leadership is evident in Klein’s most successful projects from major projects such as Burwood Hospital to the Best Award winning Shortland Health clinic. With 16 years at Klein he has a pedigree at the interface of health design and architecture with design expertise that encompasses hospital campus masterplanning, architectural building design, health planning, site analysis, feasibility, both public and private facilities, retirement and retail, and an acute focus on the quality of the interior and the patient experience.

Ricky’s particular interest in projects with a social cause stems from a desire to provide for the most vulnerable strata of society through creative architectural solutions. He believes in the correlation between good design and the wellbeing of people and the land.

He has a strong focus on the exhaustive investigation and understanding of the project brief, client’s objective and vision, and the project siting along with its wider physical, ecological and cultural context. Through these, a design narrative naturally presents itself to inform all aspects of the architecture.

Ricky is a great communicator and has a collaborative approach to design, ensuring that the project aspirations and design concept are fully realised in the end product.
