Hawke's Bay Hospital's new endoscopy and gastroenterology unit means more co-ordinated and accessible care for those affected by bowel conditions. Ruakopito is the first unit of its kind in the country.
The endoscopy suite at Hawkes Bay Hospital is a new 2-storey 890m2 building opened in October 2018. The new building will connect into the existing north corridor, adjacent to the main entry of the Hastings Hospital.
The suite includes three procedure rooms with two being fitted out as part of these works. The 3rd will be constructed to shell level only, to be fitted out at a future date. Eight bed bays and eight chair bays are provided in the adjacent recovery areas.
Six consult clinic rooms will provide gastroenterology services such as IBD & PEG clinics, consultant/specialist assessments, infusions and advice.
The upper floor is dedicated to staff, consisting of offices, a large meeting room, a staff room, and changing facilities.
