Ricky Lam

Having been involved in a spectrum of award-winning projects, from large-scale hospital campuses to boutique retail fit outs, Ricky has honed his craft as an accomplished designer and design leader in the industry.

Ricky joined Klein in 2005 and was appointed a Principal in 2019 then Director in 2021. He has led the architecture and spatial design for numerous award-winning projects, including Middlemore Hospital Tiaho Mai Acute Mental Health Unit, Shortland Health Clinic and the Burwood Hospital Redevelopment, and the master planning of multiple hospital campuses, clinic re-developments, as well as aged care facilities. It’s with this experience that he provides design leadership and design training across the Klein office.

Ricky has a strong focus on the exhaustive investigation and understanding of the project brief, client’s objectives and vision, and project master planning alongside the wider physical, ecological and cultural context. He finds that through this deep analysis, the design narrative naturally presents itself to inform all aspects of the architecture. He believes in the correlation between good design and the well-being of people and the land, and is passionate about working in a sector with a social cause. Ricky is a great communicator and brings an engaging and collaborative approach to projects, inspiring stakeholders and user groups to engage and inform the solution of many of the country’s most important healthcare environments.
