Sam Paterson

Sam is a registered architect, working across master planning, healthcare and aged care. He joined Klein in 2016 and became a Senior Associate in June 2022. As a lead project architect, he brings every element of process and delivery together - listening carefully to clients and building users to capture the brief; responding with insightful and innovative design solutions; leading the architectural team through project documentation; and coordinating with the consultant and construction teams.

His experience is diverse, ranging in scale from small hospital fit-outs, to multi-story aged care apartments and community facilities. His work as project architect includes Nelson Marlborough Health's Wahi Oranga refurbishment; Canterbury District Health Board's Cathlab; and master planning for Hillmorton Specialist Mental Health Services in Christchurch.

Sam brings a very thoughtful design approach, informed by excellent planning and technical knowledge to ensure projects deliver at every level - from concept and vision to day-to-day operations and functionality. He has an excellent ability to facilitate communication and coordination between large design teams, ensuring high quality, accurate project documentation.
